Chevrolet and General Motors are serious in their plan to overtake leading position on the market from Toyota’s full size pickup Tacoma. With a lot of improvements, such are lighter engines and construction, also direct injection, they get a lot better fuel economy. GM has a plan of a diesel version of the Chevrolet Colorado hitting 30 MPG. If 2015 Toyota Tacoma wants to keep up, they should consider this treat seriously. Current model of Toyota Tacoma EPA mile per gallon is 25. Can we estimate MPG average for 2015 model? We can only guess according to some facts, but we can’t know exact numbers until the unveil of 2015 Toyota Tacoma.
2015 Toyota Tacoma Fuel Economy Estimates
Lets start with engines. Ford’s Eco Boost engine with turbochargers has many fuel saving features. Also, GM has EcoTech3 engines which are made of aluminium. Direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing gives better fuel saving and with seamless cylinder deactivation it could shred consumption. We could estimate that all new engine upgrades could save up to 2.5 MPG on fuel economy.
Now we’re moving to transmission. Full size truck transmission changes are own of the hot topics between companies that produces these vehicles. Improving entire powertrain is the largest part of the fuel economy saving. Gearbox should be improved to 8-speed transmission on the way of fuel saves. Toyota is doing great in this area. With improved transmission, we can estimate that 2015 Toyota Tacoma could save up to 2 MPG more.
